Last time, we managed to hold off Olaf’s air forces with our anti-air defenses and missiles while our rockets bombarded his ground forces. However, the aerial threat is still far from over. How can we effectively deal with Olaf’s air forces this time?

Ophelia

I wonder too. Let’s see if I can surprise you!

THE BRIEFING

Ophelia

Good news you say? We finally got ways to deal with Olaf’s air forces?

Nell

We’ve finally got bombers and fighters ready to go!

Ophelia

Wooooo! That is indeed good news!

Nell

Three units each!

Ophelia

Oh em gee! Christmas came early!

Nell

You’ve only got them for this mission, but…

Ophelia

Oh, I figured there’s a catch, but still, I won’t complain!

Nell

It seems Olaf’s troops have appeared on the far shore. Your job is to get over there and take them out in one fell swoop!

Ophelia

Consider them gone!

Nell

Let’s get moving!

Nell

We were able to prepare our troops before Olaf’s troops came ashore, so all we need to do now is attack!

Ophelia

Whoa, we have the preemptive this time? This should be our quickest mission yet!

Nell

It’s always smart to check your data. You know which units can Attack which units, right? If you forget… Just check the unit’s data. You know to move the cursor to the unit and press the R Button to check its data, right?

Ophelia

Yes yes. You’ve been mentioning that every time.

Nell

OK! Good luck!

Ophelia

Surprised Nell didn’t give us any strategic tips this time. That’s okay though, we can manage.

STRATEGY — OPERATION SKY FURY

Today, our goal is simple: defeat Olaf as quickly as possible.

Here’s the situation. Olaf has a total of 9 air units and 6 ground units, so our top priority is to eliminate his air force as quickly as possible before it can threaten our own forces.

We have 6 units capable of attacking air units, which means the minimum time needed to eliminate Olaf’s entire air force is 2 days. Let’s break down the matchup further.

  • Missiles can destroy any of Olaf’s air units in a single hit.
  • Fighters can destroy every air unit except Olaf’s fighters in one hit.
  • Battle copters can only destroy transport copters in one hit.

This effectively leaves us with 4 reliable units to deal with Olaf’s 3 bombers, 2 fighters, and 2 battle copters. And that’s assuming none of our units are damaged beforehand. In other words, our margin for error is extremely small.

The primary threat in this mission is Olaf’s air force. Most of our own forces are also air units, so allowing Olaf to keep his aircraft operational could quickly turn the battle against us. Our priority, therefore, is to eliminate as much of his aerial strength as possible before he gets the opportunity to use it.

With these conditions in mind, our operation plan is clear:

Day 1: We will focus on crippling Olaf’s aerial capabilities as much as possible while destroying as many of his units as we can. Every successful strike on his air force reduces the pressure on our own forces and gives us more room to operate.

Day 2: We will finish off Olaf’s remaining forces and secure the victory.

The margin for error is narrow, but if we execute the first day correctly, Olaf’s air force should be too weakened to stop us from finishing the operation on Day 2.

Ophelia

Today, we will launch our attack to try to cripple Olaf’s aerial defense and cause as much damage as we can.

Ophelia

That’s all of Olaf’s fighters taken care of with minimal losses. That said, we still lost 1 fighter. This means this fighter squadron can no longer kill enemy air units in 1 hit. We have a solution for that though.

Ophelia

Infantry can also attack copters as we’ve seen in the past encounters. So we will transport one infantry to cover for our wounded fighters. Notice how our fighters formed a protective barrier for the landing to prevent Olaf’s bomber from engaging. The movement from our fighter engagement was deliberate to set this up. I also deliberately landed the transport copter in range of Olaf’s missiles because the enemy always prioritizes transport copters. This allows us to preserve as much fighting power as possible to eliminate Olaf’s remaining forces on Day 2.

With that out of the way, we can focus on our bombers and rockets to deal with Olaf’s ground forces.

Ophelia

We don’t want to lose the transport copter, so we will have a bomber bomb Olaf’s missiles to weaken it. The rest of the bombers and rockets will do as much as possible to Olaf’s ground forces like I mentioned before.

You may have noticed a new terrain and a new unit. Let’s go over them now.

INTEL — Lander

Lander unit stats card showing cost, movement range, transport capacity, and supply capability Landers are naval transport units that cost 12,000G. Unlike APCs and T copters, which can only transport infantry and mechs, Landers can carry any ground unit. This makes them the only way to move vehicles such as tanks, artillery, and rockets across the sea. A Lander can carry also two ground units at a time, making them more efficient than APC and Transport copters.

At 12,000G, Landers are considerably more expensive than APCs and T copters, but that extra cost gives them a unique job. If your army needs to move anything heavier than infantry or mechs across the water, there’s no substitute. Just make sure you protect them—losing a Lander means you also lose the ground units they are carrying.

INTEL — SHOAL

Shoal terrain stats card showing movement cost and defensive cover Shoal is a shallow-water terrain that can be accessed by all ground movement types at a movement cost of 1 and provides 0 defense. Like roads and bridges, it allows ground units to move freely across the terrain. However, Shoals can also be accessed by Landers, making them the only terrain where both Landers and ground units can operate. This allows ground units to be loaded onto or unloaded from a Lander while it is positioned on a Shoal, making Shoals the key connection between naval transport and land-based movement.

Ophelia

Finally, before we end our day, we can move our battle copters up.

Ophelia

We make sure to stay out of Olaf’s battle copter range.

They found my landing forces? Augh! There’s no way around it! We’ll have to make do with what we’ve got!

What do you have anyways? You have barely any anti air left.

Olaf barely did any damage to us.

Day 2

Nell's Theme
Ophelia

I know it’s only day 2, but let’s wrap up this operation. First, let’s make way for our wounded fighter and infantry combo.

Ophelia

We will take advantage of our missiles to destroy the bomber. This is because our missile can only target the bomber, the battle copter, and a transport copter. we are saving transport copter for our own battle copter, and we are attacking the battle copter with our infantry. This leaves bomber as the only viable target for the missile. In additional, by eliminating this bomber, it gives us just enough space for our infantry to reach Olaf’s battle copter.

Ophelia

The rest of the aerial cleanup should be straightforward with our fighters taking out Olaf’s remaining battle copter and bomber and our battle copters taking out Olaf’s transport copter.

Ophelia

And that’s all of Olaf’s air force gone. Now we can clean up Olaf’s ground forces and his lander.

Ophelia

That’s a wrap!

Ophelia

Wooooo! Another achievement. This one is for finishing this mission in 2 days!

Nell

I can’t believed you cleared this map in just two days! Someone with your skills may even be able to earn the “S” ranking in Campaigns, War Room… maybe even the Advanced Campaign!

Ophelia

Well… that’s what I’m hoping to achieve anyways!

Nell

You might enjoy the challenge!

Ophelia

I certainly do!

Nell

Keep up the good work!

Olaf

Augh!!! How could my landing forces be defeated?!? Now I’m in trouble!

Ophelia

Weren’t you in trouble every time?

Olaf

Just wait until next time!

Ophelia

We managed to rout Olaf’s forces in two days. Granted, we did get lucky a few times because a couple of those attacks were 95%. But considering this is Nell, I’m not so surprised.
